To get the same loudness on my Logitechs, I only had to dial it up to about 40%. Or maybe I've just becomed accustomed to the Logitech sound.īut to further support my initial impression was that I had to dial up the speaker volume to about 75% to get a nice comfortably loud volume. Of course the power rating on the 250D is 300watts RMS, so it couldn't possibly be THAT underpowered. It felt this way even to the Logitech Z-2200 I demoed at CompUSA. Connected to my Revo and listening to 192kbps MP3's and a few CD's (sampling a wide variety of music genres), the first thought that entered my head was that it felt underpowered somehow compared to my Logitech Z-680's (used in 2.1 setup). As you may have guessed, the speakers mute when a headphone is plugged in. One nice touch is that when you unplug a headphone, the volume dials down to a low default volume so your speakers won't be blasting right away. You use the select button to toggle between master, bass and treble volumes. This remote has a light up meter that shows you the volume level but this is far less pleasant to use than the knob. Would this have been so hard? This is one thing I loved about the Logitechs. One thing that bothers me is the lack of a VOLUME KNOB. The remote has a power, mute, select and volume buttons, as well as a headphone jack. Attached to the base stand, which is hefty, the wired remote is far less wobbly or unstable than it looked in pictures. The wired remote attaches to the sub and also attaches to a base stand. It is elevated 2 inches or so by large rubber feet, which I found to be a nice touch.

Nothing funky like some of the Altec Lansings. It has a nice dark gray finish and looks very much like a standard sub. The size is noticeably smaller than the Z-680 sub but not overly so. Again I would have preferred open ended connections for the speakers here. Also in the back are 2 audio inputs, a digital input, speaker ports, and remote port. It's got a main power switch in the back.

I would have preferred to have open ends on both ends but I can still upgrade to a better CS sat set if I wish while keeping the included wires.Ī pretty standard multimedia sub. The included speaker wires connect to the sats via open ends and to the sub via a standard headphone jack. The stands attach to the sats securely but I found the little rubber feet on the bottom of the stands to fall off a bit too easily. Not as bad as the Promedia 2.1 but not as nice as the metal of the Microworks. However the Microworks cubes feel a bit sturdier. I was almost expecting something similar in size to the old Microworks cubes. The satellites were bigger than I expected. But at almost $100 more, I'd rather save the money. CS gives you 2 years and 30 day money back guarantee. Clearly this is pretty much identical to the CS 210D. All the equipment, except the wired remote, says Cambridge Soundworks instead of Creative on it. Everything was secure, tidy and individually packaged. And my sound card is an M-Audio Revolution 7.1.įirst, opened the box to find the product very well packaged. I was coming from a Logitech Z-680 used primarily in a 2.1 set up. So I went with the Creative Megaworks 250D which I felt offered the most of what I wanted in speakers for the money. Creative I-trigue 3300/3450/3500 - unappealing for some reason Logitech Z-3 - looking for a bit more oomph Cambridge Soundworks Microworks/Soundworks - looking for a bit more oomph Altec Lansing 621 - seems lackluster/mediocre/uninspired overall VideoLogic Sirocco Pro/Spirit - too expensive/too difficult to find Monsoon MM-1000 - too dependent on placement doesn't seem to have the rep, sonically speaking, as some of the other players in this field on top of that, none of these even include speaker wire difference in cost explained by differing warranties/money back guaranteeĬambridge Soundworks Megaworks 211, 213, 215 same as Creative 250D but more expensive expensive (though they JUST dropped to $150 retail) Speakers I were considering at one point or another in this process and why they were eliminated: Some of you may remember I was torturing myself over this decision.

As a follow up to this thread about 2.1 PC speakers for music, I finally made my decision and picked up the Creative Megaworks 250D the other day.
